Default TSB for Error3 on factory CD player

Is there a TSB for the Error3 on the factory in-dash cd player? My 2004 RX is out of warranty and this issue started aprox 3 months after the fact.
Lexus quoted $900 for a reburished unit and $1275 for a new unit.
I know I can just send the unit out for repair but is Lexus willing to do anything to address this issue?

I am not sure if there is a TSB but I know I had the same problem with my CD player with the Error 3 and (or was it Error 4 ). Well anyways I was still under warrantee and they replaced the unit for me!

Now it works great.

Are you still under warrante?

Just a wild guess but I'm going to say no.

when you check with your dealer on the TSB, it doesn't hurt to ask Lexus but since it started 90 days after warranty and presumably more time has passed now, I don't think it's reasonable for them to address it for free. You may get lucky but if me, I certianly wouldn't feel entitled to a repair.

Lexus claims there is no TSB for this issue. However if you search this forum and others there are hundreds of post on this exact issue.
There should be no restriction on a warranty repair by Lexus if this is a known issue.

I had mines replaced. I was getting the Error 3. No problem now.

Service advisor was giving the me the excuse that Error 3 is because I was using CD-R instead of original CD's. No fricking way...

I have 07 RX350 which was purchased in August 2006. The CD Player is having ERROR 3, it won't play and I can't EJECT disc.
The car is just 3 months out of warranty.
Anyone knows of a recall or TSB on this issue?

Had my unit sent off by a non-Lexus sound shop it was $500 to fix it took them a month to do it and had to send it back to them two more times over the next year. Unit was out of a 2005 RX. Found out that it was the cd’s that were being used store bought books on cd’s but they were thin and you could almost see though them quit using those cd and had no more problems out of it. When the unit is out of the car you have no ac controls or heat it is what ever the system was on when they took it out is what you have also no nav or phone or backup camera. Call around found a Lexus store that would have changed the unit out for $700 and it was only 150 miles away. The shop that fixed the unit replace the cd drive unit and the motherboard in the unit.

Good luck on that one. I could not even get them to admit a problem with moisture in the headlights.

To update this original post...

I ended up removing the unit myself and sent it to a repair facility. They rebuilt the unit and warrantied the work for one year on parts and labor. Total cost of repair was $275

Have not had an issue with burned cds since the repair.

Would you care to share the repair facility information for those who might have this problem in the future? Thanks in advance.

For that price you would be better off replacing with an aftermarket radio and the JDM dash kit. Cheaper

But if you trade or sale the car you will take a big hit on the price because it is not the right head unit for the car.
