As the service tech said, the condensor is the radiator-type device that sits in front of the radiator. Unfortunately, it will be the first item hit by a stone from a passing vehicle. I would guess that the repair cost from Lexus is about right. As others have said, this is something that just about any a/c shop can work on. A/c work is usually not cheap though. I don't believe that a condensor can be repaired at all. Just replaced.

I have heard horror stories of rock chips on the condenser....and the dealer will not accept it under warranty, rightfully so.

When I bought the RX, I immediately put on the mesh screen...to protect the condenser.....

It was just a bad design for the coil to be exposed to an area of high exposure to rocks from the road....

Hence the mesh...to protect the air dam opening....

thank you guys for all 'ur info. it's been helpful for me to decide what's should
i do. My Rx is @ dealer now , they even showed to me the condenser leaking
coming from below opening of air vent by adding freon . The stimate cost is about $700 -1000.
Mandyfig> i might do Diy you suggest for condenser protection that will really help and save me $$, it maybe late for me but no more next time . My only
concern is , will it affect the air going to condenser/ radiator ?
