Default Outside temperature gauge

Hello all. I have an 04 RX330 with the navigation. My outside temperature guage is stuck at 122. I searched the RX forum to see if there was a reset. Does anybody know if there is a way to reset the temperature display or is this a dealer only repair? Thank you.

Crawl under the front bumper. The sensor [at least in RX300] is there. Look for dangling wires or crushed sensor. If you search the RX300 forum, Lexmex posted a picture of the sensor a while back.

I hope it is as simple as that!

Salim's right, the OAT sensor is mounted on the driver's side just below the front bumper - on the RX300. I think, but I'm not sure, that on the RX330, that display is taking a reading from your Mass Airflow Sensor in the intake.

If so, I much prefer the setup in the RX300, although it could often be confused by our July-August temperatures and heat reflection from a Texas blacktop road. I've seen 114° indicated on my RX300 on a hot day in North Texas. Real OAT was probably about 98°.

If your sensor is located on the MAF, you would think it would be throwing CEL codes all over the place. Any ideas?

Ironically enough, the battery went dead. After I replaced the battery, the outside temp reading went back to normal. I assume that it was reset when there was no electricity.

There used to be a quirk that I would get every so often with my RX300 where when I turned on the vehicle nothing would show up on the blue screen and I would have to disconnect the battery to get rid of the gremlins.

I had seen it happen on a few other vehicles, notably a BMW a few times.
