Default Prepaid Mainteneace Program

Have had my 2008 RX 350 since 2/08. Only have 4000 miles on it as I live relatively close to work.

I received this e-mail today from the dealer offering a PrePaid Maintenance Program.

This premium prepaid maintenance program covers recommended service needed on your new Lexus for 3 years or 30,000 (which ever comes first) and is offered to you for only $1,295.00 (we also have 2 yr/20,000, 4yr/40,000 5 yr/50,000 plans). By purchasing this plan, you will save hundreds of dollars over the 3 years by securing today's pricing on covered parts and labor for the length of the plan you purchase. This plan will provide confidence that your maintenance is done right, helping to avoid costly mistakes by mechanics not properly trained to work on your vehicle. A complete history of your vehicle's maintenance will be provided and reminders will be sent when a service is needed.

For complete details, eligibility requirements(vehicle purchase must be within 1 year and have less than 6000 miles), on this Factory Backed program, please call today!

Any thoughts or feedback would be appreciated.

You need to do the math. For a 30K policy you need to check and see what will be done in this period. Oil & Filter, tire rotation every 5K miles. That would be 5 times (the first 5K mile service is free). Tranny done twice (15K if you tow or drive under dusting conditions (AWD). AC Filter changed out a few times. Brake Fluid changed at 30K. No way that is worth $1295. Check page 46 of your owners manual and it will list all of the maintenance. A lot of that stuff is just visual checks.....or just call your Lexus dealer and ask them what they charge for the 10K,15K, 20K, 25K and 30K check ups and do the math. While your at it, you could also call the local Toyota dealer and see what they charge but then you would miss out on the "Lexus experience" of maintaining your car at the dealership.

I would save the cash and use an independent that specializes in Toyota/Lexus. With a service interval at 15K and 30K and oil changes every 5K, you won't come near $1295. However, if you choose to have your vehicle serviced at the Lexus dealership, that would probably pay for itself.

For example, when I called about the 60K interval on our RX330, the Lexus dealer was ~$900, the Toyota dealer was ~$650 and the independent was ~$450.

What was done on your 60 K "service"? Also where did you get it done, I am going to assume the independent!
