Like I said before, the braille battery is only 7 lbs lighter than a standard battery of the same electrical capacity.

Is that true? I figured any spark that might jump between the positive lead and post would be best guarded if the system were still grounded.

Did you even check the spec of the battery that fit RX before you post

Sears DieHard Gold South is 39 lbs and cost $99.99 without tax.

3 out the 5 reviews of your favorite brand/model posted negative experiences from Sears' web site. Just click "review".

You can also Google on Costco, AutoZone Duralast on their weight spec. It is misleading to other members when you don't have the accurate data to begin with.

For inquiring minds ...

Since the body (chassis) is naked (un-insulated), it is better to disconnect it first (and connect last).

ex: While you work the wrench to loosen the + terminal, if you touch any metallic part, you will create a short. Now if the short happens when you are undoing the - terminal nothing will happen. Once the - is disconnected and you short the + to gnd, nothing will happen.
[by the way short does produce spectacular spark, part of the wrench will melt, but the worst part (not visible) is in the battery... the plates vibrate and the acid gets sloshed and the battery my split ... spewing acid all over]

Salim

The - of the battery does not provide any protection from ESD (electrostatic discharge).
