Mounting Tire Pressure Monitoring Sensors
I'm hoping somone here has mounted the TPMS sensors on an aluminum wheel. Does anyone know if the TPMS sensors mount on the inside surface of the wheel or do they float out a bit from the surface? The valve fits well into the hole but the flat suface of the sensor sits a wee bit off the surface of the sheel on the inside.
Thanks for any and all responses

To my knowledge, the RX using wheel speed sensors to estimate tire inflation. So when a tire is becoming flat or under inflated it will spin more times than the other tires. The 04 and 05 definitely do use wheel speed sensors, but i am unsure about the 06-09

The lexus uses a ACTIVE monitoring system that mounts through the valve stem of the wheel (at least the 06 and up does). You can get a good look at them by looking for "lexus pressure sensor" on EBay. they will pull right up. BTW, You need to have the FACTORY program them, as far as I know there is no aftermarket way to program them (ie, turn off the yellow light).

While I ended up having mine professionally mounted, it seemed fairly straight forward on the OEM TPMS sensors I bought. Valve goes directly into the hole and monitor seems to float a bit off the wheel. Previous comment are correct - you will need to have the TPMS serial number input into your on-board computer by your Lexus dealership.
To avoid extra cost (they charged me $200 to remove tires, get the information codes, input and remount the tires), I would mark these numbers down before installing so that they're ready for the dealership.

Lexus TPMS Sensor Set costs $391 and here is the product description:
Each transmitter has a built-in semiconductor to directly measure tire pressure, and is powered by a lithium battery with a lifespan of approximately 10 years.
The transmitter ID codes for two sets of tires—such as regular and winter—may be registered in the system (ID registration must take place at a Lexus dealership). A tire select switch on the left of the glovebox allows the driver to easily select the appropriate tire set for monitoring.
Can you please post a picture

I also read that the system may not operate properly if:
•Tires not equipped with tire pressure warning valves and transmitters
•The correct ID code is not registered in the tire pressure warning ECU
•Electric devices or facilities using similar radio wave frequencies are nearby
•A radio set at similar frequencies is used in the vehicle
•A window tint that affects the radio wave signal is installed
•There’s an excess of snow or ice on the vehicle, particularly around the wheels or wheel housings
•Non-genuine Lexus wheels are used
•The tire pressure warning valve and transmitter battery is depleted
•Tire pressure is extremely high (72 psi or more)
•Using snow tires or snow chains

UHHHH LOL thats insane, so i guess the $700 rim + tire set i baught from EBAY wont be able to mount these TPMS sensors..or they fit onto ANY/ALL rims? Can someone elaborate i didnt quite understand from above...
