Cool maint required light on no service is needed.

Hi folks, new to the forum. I have an 07 rx 350 with 38k miles on it. The maint required light is on but its not due for an oil change rotation etc. I hooked an obd scanner to it and no codes. I know how to reset the light but wanted to know why it came on. thanks for any help you can give.

That maintenance required light comes on simply by odometer rotation. Every 5K miles or around that number it will come on. It doesn't monitor fluid longevity like BMWs where it measures contaminants on the oil and such. Its just a reminder light that you have traveled about 5K miles since the last time that reminder light was reset. Lexus recommended service interval is 5K miles, thus it comes on at around that time.

Is there a way to shut that off? It's pretty annoying to have that stay on and not be able to read your odometer without being distracted.

As mentioned, you can reset that maintenance required reminder light, but keep in mind you are just resetting the counter back to zero, and about 5K miles later it will illuminate again.

Well, at least it's better than nothing haha. I'll just have to turn it off every 5k miles or take it to the dealership and get maintenance. lol
