I have the stock Michelins and am considering going for 4 snow tires to bolster the handling. I'd like even better road grip as I'm a skier and chase the snow instead of hide from it.
Time to search the forums for the snow tire threads.....

I think Rich is correct, the driver is 75% of the equation. The test drive for the h we took was in snowy conditions, and I thoroughly enjoyed the traction under acceleration and while braking in various conditions. I would not hesitate to take this vehicle in weather, and with snow tires, I wouldn't hesitate to do mountain weather driving.
I have some pretty diverse experience in cold weather driving, from the high arctic to California, FWD, RWD, AWD, 6WD & tracks.

I had mine out in the snow at Deep Creek Lake in western Maryland, and it's fine on flat ground, but the hills were terrible. The automatic overrides won't let you accelerate to get enough speed to get up the hill. I tried turning off the ABS, but no luck. Had to get yanked up by my brother's truck. My MDX had a 4 wheel lock switch that worked great. I couldn't find anything similar in the manual on the RX. I guess I will have to get some chains.

We upgraded from the junky Goodyear tires to Bridgestone Alenzas before the first sign of snow.
I'm happy to report that the car does very well, even in 6 inches of unplowed snow:

The RX400h handled very good in the snow we had today even where no body did anything it was great. I spent one and a half hours driving in it today it was slow going for some time 5 to 10 mph with extreme traffic but once I got out of the traffic on local roads I was up to almost 25 mph on packed snow. Visibility was very poor as we had heavy snow at the time I was on the road.

I must say I have had no problem whatsoever in snow with my RX400h. This is absolutely the best investment yet it is well PAID for here!!! We have had eleven days (tomorrow will be day 12) with snow so far this year. I do plenty of hill climbing in snow this year. My 17 mile commute is 75% hills each way.As noted above I have the stock Michellins on the truck also.

I got up this AM to yet another snow fall the eleventh this month. (My half acre in NM is tempting) My 25 minute commute took me 30 to 35 minutes. I had 1.5 inches driving into work it got to severe sniowfall level roads got worse by the minute. The first major hill I took without issue the second I felt the wheels digging in the third no problem at all. I passed several front wheel drives not making to good they were very slow. My freshly plowed parking lot was already 1 to 2 inches deep the road I work on was 4 inches deep. I did mostly 30 to 35 MPH all the way up hill. I have the factory Michellins on also.
