Windshield wiper squeak - solved

How did you go about replacing the cover? Mine completely cracked all the way across and can no longer be installed. Is it sold as a separate part from the arm? I'd hate to have to replace the entire arm for a simple part like this.

Thanks to everyone on this thread. In particular, "cold" was the magic answer. I tried & tried in 5C temps (40F) & cracked the cover, tho' fortunately did not break. Super-glue was fine. And 10 minutes with a hair dryer softened it enough to work the cover off, starting with the top edge & then bottom left corner. Squeak gone (after also replacing wipers a couple of times)

I thought I'd post a solution to a very annoying windshield wiper squeak.
I went through 2 sets of new wipers trying to combat a loud and embarrassing squeak whenever the wipers were on. Sadly, one of those sets cost me $100 CDN because I had the dealer do it (wiper + labor + taxes = approx $100). Grrr.
In my case, it was just the bushing on the shaft around which the passenger wiper rotates that needed some oil. Problem solved.
Procedure:
1) open hood
2) reach over and yank off the big plastic piece that covers the assembly at the base of the passenger wiper arm. You don't need tools, but you have to yank fairly hard as it's held in place by friction and maybe a tab that grips something.
3) 3 or 4 drops of oil (I used 3-in-1 household oil) into the ring that is the bushing around the shaft that the wiper arm rotates around
4) press the plastic cover back on and close the hood
Congratulate yourself on saving $100.
After 30 seconds of wiper use for the oil to distribute over the shaft, no more squeak.

Finally!!
I had, (past tense) this problem too, on my 2005 RX 330. I’m the only owner and have faithfully had it maintained. After replacing the wiper blades and ensuring my windshield was as clean as I could get it, the squeak persisted. I subscribed to the forums for my vehicles and was very happy to stumble upon this solution. After reading all the comments about it, I got my wife’s hair dryer out and used it to heat up the plastic and soften any adhesive underneath. After heating it up, I kept constant pressure on the top left with one hand and then lifted on the bottom left with my other hand, and voila, it popped off. I applied 3 in 1 oil, put the cover back on and the squeak is gone.

Nope, just snapped it back in place. I believe heating the plastic before trying to remove was the trick. All the tabs were intact and there was minimal if any adhesive on the underside.

Thanks. I tried last night with WD40 (using a can with a long spray tip/nozzle) and got some WD40 into the mentioned areas under the plastic cover. It helps a bit. I will do some more and see how that goes. If that does not work, then I'll try your approach.

Good luck
I wish you luck. I just tried to not get to over zealous when trying to get it loose.
