Greetings -- first post -- Had no audio from stereo in 2004 rx 330-- worked fine, just no sound. I just got back from dealer and after replacing my head unit in dash for FREE (nice) they informed me that they found some change - a dime and two pennys in the unit and that the replacement did not fix the problem. They said they would go ahead and cover the replacment for free, but that the amp was likely shorted out from the change (I have a 2 and 4 year old) so they could not cover the amp -- the price from the dealer 1k -- that is right a grand. Please Please Please tell me there is an aftermarket solution -- its the wifes car and she does not want anything fancy just a radio that works. I looked for threads, but did not see any answers. Thanks.

Is it possible to buy an aftermarket amp, such as an Alpine, and use it as a replacement?
This thought comes to mind because I did exactly that in my BMW Z3 3.0i. The surrounds on the factory subwoofer failed. The OEM replacement was so incredibly expensive I looked for another solution. The after market replacement subwoofer I selected required more power than the original OEM subwoofer so I had to also replace the BMW OEM subwoofer amp. I found I an Alpine subwoofer amp that turned out to be a good replacement but it took a little ingenuity to mount it. Also, some minimal custom wiring was necessary, but it interfaced very well with the existing harness even though I had to cut off the factory connector and individually connect each wire to the appropriate terminal. It was alot easier than it might sound and it works great. Your biggest challange taking this approach is getting your hands on something that defines what each individual wire does in the existing wiring harness.
