I am a 2005 RX330 owner and would like to update the navigation dvd for North America.
Would any member on this site be able to lead me in the right direction as to where it would be the best place to get one. I have checked with our local Lexus dealer and I find that the price is outrages.
I live in British Columbia. Some are being sold on Ebay, but also pricy.
My old DVD navigation map is as follows
North America W41, D
86271- 33044
464210-0581
Data Ver.04.2
I would be very happy to get some input
Thanks

Ebay, best bet. Try your local Craigslist.

I know someone who made a copy of another's newer disk and it did not work.

Your car has Generation 4 hardware. You have data version 4.2 (which is the version of dvd/maps your system is using). You can update to dvd v 5, v6, v7 or v8. 8 is the newest and 5 is just one year better than what you already have. Price will depend on how new of version of maps you want. The difference in each years dvd depends on how much new development has happened in the areas you drive. I would think you would want to jump at least to v6 (2 years newer than what you have). I imagine dealers only have the newer versions. As others have suggested, you will have to go to ebay etc for older versions. Either way be sure to get a dvd that is for Generation 4 hardware.

This is one reason why many of us forgo the Navigation upgrade and use a Garmin or similar unit. Easily, and cheaply, replaced or upgraded. Can be moved from vehicle-to-vehicle, used in rental cars or other family vehicles.
Sure, getting the backup camera is nice -- but not at that price.

Upgrading or not, installed or portable is certainly a matter of personal choice. One other thought. If you upgrade the Lexus system, never pay the dealer to do it IMO or at least know that you are paying for the convenience of not having to eject a dvd and slide in the new one. Upgrading is that simple.

They are so darn expensive. So hard to justify. prob. the worst most generic maps with a really nice real voice. Garmin map updates are about $100 and even that's to me pretty harsh. personally for me I am looking for a cheap copy
. I really hate saying it out loud. I know some will look down upon it. But I say hogwash. It's price gouged.

You could put the money you would use to upgrade the dvd towards a portable GPS device or better yet an iPhone for which there are several free navigation apps.
MapQuest 4 Mobile, AT&T Navigator, Global Navigator, Navfree GPS and numerous others. With these apps the maps are always current. All offer voice turn by turn guidance and easy route selection.
FWIW, my dealer charges a flat $200 for the DVD upgrade including labor.
