I replaced 4 tire (bridgston) yesterday and found 1) the harsh ride is gone, 2) somewhat the noise is lower or gone for those from the tire, but the engine sound is still there - lounder than before.

I would like to describe the sound like a Honda accord but not a luxus. What is wrong there?

The new Honda Accord sounds pretty good There is no way we can narrow down the problem by sound description, you need to record a sound clip or something for us.

I noticed the same loud annoying vooommmm noise from my wife's 04rx330 engine under moderate acceleration. After some investigation, I came to the conclusion that this is a design flaw by lexus.... they changed the intake manifold on the 04 rx330 to plastic. I think this is causing the extra resonating vooommmm on acceleration.

Dealer will not admit to this and really there is nothing they can do to fix it. I am considering buying a used aluminum intake manifold(from rx300 99-03) to replace it. My question is will it fit???? I know it has the same gaskets, I am not sure about the housing. Maybe Lexmax or others on this board knows. Any input wil be appreciated.

Ckim61,

If the cause is the one you found then the project for us to replace the manifold is a big one.

How did you get the conclusion? Why the sound becoming more noticiable after a year or two when compared to new.

Do you think some other cause such as belt loosen, exhuast leaking etc?

One good thing is that no rattle for the RX350 (mine is made in Japan - brought from CA and shipped to NY) when compared to Acura 2008 TL (a rattle box with better engine).

I can't agree with you more.

Default Startup Noise

I am new to this site. I have a 2008 RX 350 that is making the same 'noise' that Boognish had mentioned. It is only when first started in the morning and engine is cold(in CA that is 40 degrees). After you drive it slowly for about a mile and the engine warms up, everything is nice and quite again. My 1999 RX did the same thing. I will have the dealer check it out at the 20k service.

^^^
How many miles did you get out of the '99? Sounds like it's normal on this family of engine.

i have a '09 RX and recently bought. it is normal i guess. the "Vroom" noise shouldn't be that big of a deal, it is normal engine sound. the '10 RX has a much quieter interior so buy that if you are interested.

I only had 125,000 on it. Little things were starting to go wrong (engine light, driver's side power mirror, power window sticks...). Little things...but then the RX was 10 yrs old. I loved it. But the 2008 is way nicer, faster and smoother. Glad I bought it.
