Default Rear wiper blade (yep. Once again)

I followed advice that I got from the search function and got the plastic cover off of the rear wiper arm quite easily. Then, when I looked at the arm itself, I saw that it has two plastic tabs that prevent the wiper blade from moving out from either end. On front wiper blades, there is usually a metal arrow-like device that locks the wiper blade into place. Not so on the rear. How does one get the old wiper blade out past the plastic tab? Just bend the blade and force it out? This is an original blade from my 05 (yes, I got lazy when I couldn't figure out the cover) and it is useless.

Thank you,
Gary

I just replaced the insert, it was the same as the front. Is that an option?

We are indeed talking about the same thing. My term, blade, is the same as your insert.

My rear wiper arm has a plastic blade/insert holder that has a plastic tab at each end. This tab prevents the insert from sliding out during normal operation. In order to get the old insert out and the new one in, the tab is in the way. Do you just force the old one to bend the small amount to get it to come out?

Any help?

Thanks,
Gary

What you described is exactly what I did on the rear wiper, I just re-used the two metal strips with the new wiper blade. I cut the new wiper blade to be the same length as the original one and it has been working fine.

troz350,
The ONE thing you didn't say is how you got past the two plastic tabs. Did you just pull it down and past the tab? Obviously, you can't pull it straight out.

Lift the rear blade. Pull the rubber part towards the rear hatch window and pull to the left simultaneously to slide it out. Took me like a minute to figure that out lol.

Default Rear Wiper Blade

I was cleaning my RX last week. And broke my rear blade holder. One of the tabs at the end that hold the thin metal strips. That holds the rubber wiper. Went to Lexus and ordered the whole blade piece.

Now the question is. How do you release the whole assembly? You must have to push or pull on something in the middle. But I couldnt figure it out.

Yes, I just bent the end of the wiper down and slid it past the tab that prevents the wiper for coming out. I hope that helps.

Thanks for all the help. I took my needle nosed pliers and pulled the old wiper blade out. Since this is an original blade it was beyond useless. This, coming from an **** guy who changes blades when they show the slighest streaking. I couldn't wait for an online supplier and went to Advance Auto Parts. They sell a replacement insert that you cut to length. The stainless inserts have notces to allow you to bend and break but I used my originals. Then, all you need to do is to cut the wiper insert rubber to the right length.

Here is the "gotcha". The bend-and-break "one size fits none" insert comes in 6mm, 7mm, and 8mm widths. I looked at the blade and wound up getting the 7mm. Probably should have bought the 6mm when it was all said and done. Anyhow, it was actually easier to pull the whole arm off by taking the bolt off and inserting the new insert. Once the rubber was in, then I carefully inserted the stainless inserts.

Works good and actually wipes the window clean. Hooray for me!

The insert is part # 85214-0E010
The wiper blade assy is part # 85242-0E030

All 2n gen rx (2004 - 2009) use the same parts.
