12v Battery dead on the hybrid...
Anyone ever had their battery go out? My mom is stuck at the Ralph's parking lot and she said none of the lights work, etc.. I would go pick her up, but she's 1100 miles away from me right now..
someone go pick her up.. she said she bought eggs and milk and they r gonna go stale...
Anyone know a good place to go buy a replacement battery? they'll probably goto Costco..
Battery dead in 3 years? wow.. that sux.

Wow, in 3 years? Did your mother ever leave dome lights or anything on without knowing? It could have drained the battery some time the days before prior to that day.

Does your mom only do short distance drive and hardly any long distance driving ?
it may be the cause of short life span of the battery, you can always buy a cheap battery charger from your local auto supply store, charge it up and see instead of going to to spend $80-$90 for a new battery+ install.
Other options are optima, Stinger, or Tsunami deep cycle batteries, those are good but a bit pricey. Depending on your application, pick the best that suits your mom's need

If I were you have her either drive it or tow it to Lexus. At about 2 years old, my RX330 battery failed the load test and they replaced it. I would expect they would do the same for her.

If I recall Lexus has a free roadside assistance for up to 4 years which your mom can use for towing. You need to find out what the factory warranty is on the battery--it may have a free replacement for the 1st year and proration up to 4 years. The cheapest place to buy a new battery is either COSTCO or Sams Club. A new Lexus battery will probably cost you $150 (just a guess). I've purchased batteries from Sams and Costco and very satisfied with their low price and performance. Typical new car battery lasts 3 to 5 years. My Lexus GS4 original battery went out after 2.5 years. Good luck.

This is interesting because I thought the 12V battery & electric system was fed from a converter off the high voltage hybrid battery system so there would be 12V power as soon as the system is turned on, regardless of state of charge of the 12V battery. But I suppose the latter could become so dead that it's unable to even start the control electronics which in turn make the 12V power source active.
But that seems a little astonishing because even a "dead" battery on a conventional car will usually have enough juice to run electronics even if it lacks the oomph to crank the engine (not the case on the hybrid where the frequent starts are done by the motor/generator).
But there's probably plenty about the hybrid arrangement that I don't understand (I own a non hybrid). It will be interesting if a failed battery is the cause here or if it is something else.
