2004 Radio Amplifier Failure BTDT?
Sorry if there's an answer for this somewhere, but I did search an PM'd some of the participants but its been 5 days and no response.
80-yr old father's 2004 RX330 with nav and not ML audio has had amplifier failure (I guess the output amp module/xistor failed, allowing Vcc to output to spkrs). Dealer has removed fuse, but of course, no climate controls or nav.
Local dealer claimed no TSBs. Any BTDTs on what dealer is willing to do? Have used some info gleaned from search and gotten prices from Crutchfield on replacement gear, but not desirous of digging up my old X-over caps from dismal basement to implement. Does the ML amps offer more reliability and can they realistically be purchased in the aftermarket/used?
TIA and email is best for prompt reply.

ML amp is probably no any more reliable. If it is built anything like the one in the GS its a POS according to some engineers on this forum that opened the GS ML amp up. The ML amp also wont directly plug in anyway so no sense bothering with all that modifications. Either replace the entire stock headunit with an aftermarket double DIN using the Japan OEM trim plate, replace the amp with aftermarket as well, or replace the OEM amp with another OEM either used or now.
For now though, why don't you reinsert that fuse so your nav can climate control system will work again, then just go to the back of the rear passenger seat under the floor between the hatch and rear seat and unplug the amp. There should be two plugs. You wont get Nav commands anymore but at least you'll get visual nav maps and you'll get your climate control back.

I have not come across enough Amp issues posted here [so, we can assume that the amp is some what reliable .... quality of sound discussion is a different issue].
If it is the amp [and may be the speaker(s) too], I would first disconnect and if possible remove the Amp. Then you can think about repairing or replacing the amp. Make sure that the speakers are good before putting in the new amp.
I am very surprised that the Lexus dealership removed the fuse and did not go the extra mile for their customer by disconnecting the amp and disabled other functions of the vehicle. It is worth a call/repeat_visit to the dealer.
