Side mirror tilt when the selector know is either on left or right. If you slide in neutral, mirrors do not tilt. Owner's Manual says it all.

Mine has a Nav and this feature so I'm not sure if it's an option. But, this is what the manual states:
'Vehicle with driving position memory system-
When the automatic transmission selector lever is shifted into "R" position with the master switch in the "L" or "R" position, the rear view mirrors automatically down to help backing up.'
So I guess the key word is 'vehicle with driving position memory system' which most 2nd RX has. Also, if you get a chance to test drive the vehicle, then put the mirror master switch to 'L' or 'R' position then put the car into Reverse - you should see the outside rear mirrors tilt down.

So if you move the switch out of L or R (i.e. in the middle) when you're not adjusting the mirrors (as I do), you don't get the benefit of the mirror tilt? That's silly. I guess now I know why they seemed to tilt when I test drove it, but don't do it anymore!

The manual if read carefully and with much patience, can educate the new owner quickly. Happened to me. Went through the manual very quickly and learned only 20% of what I know now.
The key is to read and practice at the same time.
