Default TPMS in Spare?

Of course i have a full size spare, but i am looking at using the spare so i only have to buy 3 tires vice 4, and putting a worn tire up under for an emergency.

so the question is does the spare have a TPMS ? or will they have to remove the tire and put it on one of the 4 i have on the ground??

you still probably have to dismount the spare tire anyway, because the space is a donut rim.

i thought all RX's had a full size spare. the owners manual says to rotate the spare when you rotate the tires, so all the tires end up getting used

this is what i was hoping for, i just bought a used 2004, and it needs tires soon, turns out the previous owner never rotated the spare into the mix, so i only have to buy 3 now,

My 05 has a full size tire with TPMS and alloy wheel. In fact, I do my own tire rotations using the five tire method. When it came time to replace the tires, I picked the best of the five oem tires and it is now a dedicated spare and now do four tire rotations. I wouldn't recommend buying three OEM tires and using your spare to save a dime or two. Even though they aren't used, don't see the daylight, an OEM tire that is several years old will still age due to environmental issues. I have read that ozone contributes as well as plain old age.

you raise a good point, i will inspect the tire thoroughly prior to using, but the benfit is too great not to consider, i could stand to save 200 bucks if i do use it

I would not put a 5 - 6 year old tire on my car just from a safety standpoint. I'd leave it as a spare and buy 4 new tires. You really can't put a price on yours and you families safety and $200 sounds like cheap insurance to me.

Both automakers and safety experts believe driving on tires older than six years old can lead to death or serious injury.

As an aside, when I replaced my tires I sure didn't want to put that brand back on the car.

Just called my Goodyear dealer, and there rule of thumb from Goodyear is no longer than 7 years. so i would be ok, but as it turns out, 3 will cost me 1100 bucks, and i can get 4 of a different model tire for cheaper, so it looks like it wil stay a spare after all.

what? $1100 for 3 tires? Shop around, I did all 4 of mine (Bridgestone Alenza H/L) for around $700 net after $100 rebate visa card.... try tires plus or discount tire and go with the Alenza's they are excellent
