For wheel bearing noise listen to what mandfig said:

So easy for a FWD test.

Default noise

Yes and yes
The noise are certainly the bearing. I changes both in my rx330 2004 a week a go. Maybe the lexus at $ 40k are more a toyota from ontario/canada than a lexus for Japan
Look your serial number. If it start with: 2 it made in ontario. If you have a J, it made in Japan. Maybe the same wheel bearing ...and same problem.

Yes. I think it is wheel bearings. I have a 2004 and I, too, thought the noise was tire noise. Now that it made a clinking sound and I got new rear wheel bearings at $1,250, the noise disappeared. mmc 4/21/2012

After you fix the major problem with noise, you can go a step further to reduce road noise. See this thread:

Default Air flow Noise Help

Hi,

I have an 09 IS 250 and I have noticed that when the sunroof is open and I am on the highway, the wind makes the dashboard vibrate a ton and there is a low humming noise. Does anyone have any suggestions short of keeping the sunroof closed? Thanks

Welcome to Club Lexus, Chrystal.

Harmonic pressure wave...

Close the sunroof partially. Should go away.

I had this occur on my 04 she it was new. It sounded like a helicopter was hovering right over the car. Turns out the sunroof needed to be initialized. I was opening it by holding the button until it opened all the way. The auto open function leaves it a half an inch from wide open and that stopped the thumping.

would this be a wheel bearing problem coming from the rear?
I had the humming noise with my 05RX330. And it drives me crazy. My mechanic said it's the rear right hub wheel bearing.

I finally had it replaced today and my RX is quite as I can imaging again....

I bought the wheel hub from
http://www.primechoiceautoparts.ca/p...-new-mmy-.aspx

it's cheap but I saw in a Jeep forum that they are not bad. So I gave it a try this time.

If a lexus has too much "road noise" that you couldn't stand it, it must be the wheel bearing issue.

After googling it I found that It's quite a common issue with RX

I would try opening the sunroof about half way or so and see if it cuts down on it any. If that doesn't work, I don't think there is a solution to your problem other than closing the sunroof on the highway. Let us know what you find out.
