Default TPMS did not work

Hi, during my monthly check of tire pressure I found the front passenger tire extremely low. TPMS did not go off I filled it up to 34 lbs, the next day it was down to 32 lbs. I had the tire checked this AM at a tire dealer. No defects were found.

I have the Alenzas, about 4 years old with 32K miles on them. The dealer put them on (tires purchased elsewhere) so I assume TPMS was reset then. I tried to reset it per the manual after the tire was checked this AM but I'm not sure it worked. What should I do?

Thanks!
Anita

Let some air out of the tire and see it it works.

kiwi, you're right, it takes a few hours of driving to "initialize." So I'll wait to let some air out to test. My concern is the warning light didn't flash when I hit the reset button per the instructions. For now I'll check the pressure in the morning and hope for the best.

Appreciate the help

Is your car equipped with TPMS?

Yes, I have TPMS. I reset it again this morning and it flashed on the dash But I accidentally turned off the automatic leveling system The buttons are close together. I managed to get that working again. The good news is the tire pressure was ok this morning But I'll keep checking.

The reseting of tpms must be done exactly as described in the manual, and should flash as described.

The system is pretty sensitive, so make sure all the tires (including spare) are at the correct pressure prior to reset.

I been told that on the '04 RX330, the tire monitoring is done off the anti-lock brake sensors. Not a sensor in the tire. It senses a difference in rotational speed and sets off the low tire ind.

If your tire dealer didn't find a leak, then it could be the rim. Aluminum rims are known to develop leaks. See if they will submerge the whole rim and determine where the leak is coming from. Two pounds in one day is a fair leak and needs to be addressed.

Put some soapy water on your valve stem...it could be leaking.

Daryl, are you saying have them submerge only the rim in water? The tire was put in water while still on the rim. Nothing. I had him take the tire off the rim to inspect the inside of the tire and the rim. Again, nothing. The valve was OK. He put some kind of sealant on the rim before he put the tire back on. Maybe that helped compensate for any defect in the rim. Who knows For now all is well. I'll check the pressure daily and the TPMS in a few days to make sure it's working.

Thanks!

Update, I had the wheel checked again because I still had a leak causing a 3 lb loss each week. I went to the tire dealer who sold the tires to me (awesome guys). Sure enough there was a very slow leak around the weight. It was removed and the rim was cleaned up and sealed. New weight was put on and the tire was rebalanced. Once I know this is resolved, I'll reset the TPMS. Whew!

Has anyone else experienced a problem like this?

I never liked the clip on weights just because of this reason. It does not happen all the time, but can.

The other option is the glue on [double sided tape] weights. Here in central Texas heat, the spare in the trunk does not do to well with the glue on types.

Glad you found where the problem was. I dislike clip on weights as well.

Salim, thanks for the info. I'll keep on file for future reference.
