any input on what the tallest tire sizes i can use for my 05 rx...I currently have the stock 18's with 255/55....i'd like to fill up the wheel gap with a taller tire....i noticed the front struts are kind of close to the tires so what would be the tallest....I was thinking either 260 or 265....any input would be appreciated...thnx

thats really a bad idea, the taller the sidewall the crappier the handling will be.
its not like lexus just randomly chose a tire size, there is alot of thought and math that goes into it, you should really stick with the stock size.
the only option you should consider would be to install larger rims, the people at tirerack shoud be able to sell you a rim and tire package that suits your needs

If you want TALLEST, you want the middle number to go up ie. 55 -> 65, 75 etc. The middle number is the ratio of side wall to the width. ie. 235/55/18 means the sidewall is 55% of the width (235mm).
Of course 255/55/18 will be taller, but it will also be significantly wider. 255mm in width and the sidewall will be 55% of 255mm tall.
When you get 255, I would seriously look into the rear strut, because at 235, there isn't that much clearance between the tire and the strut already. As well, if you mess with the diameter/circumference of the tires significantly, you may have to recalibrate your speedometer as well.

I have seen 255's installed with no rubbing, quite a few folks here have these tires, 255/55/18's.

instead of going taller, why can't you lower your car instead ? wouldn't that
shortens the stock wheel gap also ?

You'll throw off your speedo significantly.
While that in itself isn't so bad you'll also end up changing the shift points on the transmission as well as affect ABS as it works off the speed sensors I believe.
If you want less of a gap just lower the car.
