Default GPS Tracker Installation in a 2006 RX400h

I am thinking about getting a GPS tracking device installed in my RX400h. You know a device that allows me to log onto my computer and see where the car is.

Here is a link to the device I am thinking about:

We want to be able to track the nanny that drives our car.

Two questions. 1) Has anyone had a device like this installed and do the like it? 2) Will Lexus install it? They had a fit when I asked them to install my ipod addapter several years ago. They said it would void the warranty. I ended up installing it myself with no problems.

Any advice is appreciated.

Thanks.

1. Wouldn't it be cheaper to hire a nanny you can trust?
2. This device appears to be a self-contained unit that simply needs to be hard wired to a switched power source. Such sources are available all over the car, even in the rear storage area. It would seem to be no more difficult to install via hard wire than a radar detector.
3. Why not put in in the back and use the 12v plug right there? Radio Shack has all the parts you need for $5.00.
4. Don't bother the dealer with this; if you installed an iPod adapter yourself, this should be a piece of cake.

i have something similar in my RX350
honestly, i don't think it worth the money
it's not like those tracking device you seen on tv
you won't be able to see those red dot or green dot moving as if your car is moving
you have to keep refreshing the screen for it
both gps and celluar antenna have to mount as high as possible
dealer install my celluar antenna right behind the instrument panel
if you really want to do it
i would suggest you install at back of you car
it's easier to take apart all the panels at back than your dash board

Thanks for the responses. We just hired the nanny, and feel trust is something you gain over time. My wife is the one pushing for us to install it, and I think it would be nice to know where our son is. RsSharky, I would be interested in know what unit you purchased and what the reason was. I understand it isn't going to be like TV (nothing ever is) but it sounds like a good idea to know where the car is at any given moment.

My main concern is that it would mess up the hybrid system because I am tapping into the cars electrical system. I don't want to void my hybrid warranty, especially since the car is almost 5 years old.

I might look at installing it myself, but want it to look professional and be hidden. The idea is she would not know it was installed in the car. Take that how you want, but I don't see it as any different than insurance companies using the car's "black box" information against you when you are in an accident.

Thanks again,
