Do the 2006 RX models suffer from any type of transmission issues (2 or AWD)?
Do they need any 'special' attention paid over their lifetime? (i.e. replace tranny oil every 10k miles, or update tranny software every other month)
Im a current owner of an ol' 99 RX300 (which Im sure you're aware of the tranny issues on this one) and Im looking to upgrade to a 2006 RX.
Searching thru these forums I was able to find transmission issues on the 2003-2005 (i.e. hesitation, clunking, software updates that didn't work, etc.) but I didn't come across anything specific regarding the '06 models.

You are right, othet than the shifting feeling issues, no abnormal failures have been reported here.

I`m just curious, what do you mean by shifts smoother? I just got my 05 on Saturday, and I think (so far any way) it shifts fine. All I did so far is change the trans.fluid with Castrol Multi Import Vehicle fluid, and add 8 oz. of lube guard.I will not use the Toyota fluid,I dont like it.

The TSB was mentioned in a few threads and those who had it done raved about how much better the car shifted. Mine is ok but at times it seems a little off. So I'm going to get it done even thought I am only keeping my 04 until December.

come to think of it,I called the Lexus dealer where it was bought from and serviced.I asked them if their were any open TSB`S and they replied that they were all performed.maybe this was one of them.

Not at all,the Castrol fluid is also Type-IV approved. In my last RX (2001) I used This fluid,Wolfs Head full Synthetic,Mobil-1 Synthetic, out of them all that I tried the Wolfs Head and this Castrol fluid worked the best.

Interesting, I'll have to try the Castrol product, wonder if it's good on most Lexus products?

My beef with the Toyota fluid is; when i used it in my other RX (2001) the trans slip from 1st to 2nd gear was more pronounced than with the Castrol fluid. It just shifted better with the Castrol import multi vehicle fluid. Some on this board swear by the Toyota fluid, but I do know its a thicker fluid than the others I have tried.

One of the reason I stick with the toyota ATF because I dropped the pan instead of doing a complete transmission flush. Dropping the pan only replace maybe 50% of the original ATF. If I start using castrol, I would be mixing different manufactures atf, which not good for the car.
