I just picked up a used 08 RX-350 with 27K miles. In my other two vehicles (BMW and Honda), there is a computer readout available in the car that tells me how many more miles I have to the next oil service is due, and I have to reset this when I change the oil each time to let the car know to restart the oil service life timer. The BMW even dynamically extends or reduces the oil life based on how you drive the car.
I've looked all over the RX-350, but cannot find anything like this. Am I missing it, or am I just supposed to have the oil changed every 5,000 miles, period? Note: The little decal on the upper-left corner of the windshield was written using some kind of marker that simply wore off when someone cleaned the window. It is no longer legible.
The car looks flawless on the outside, inside, and even in the engine compartment it is very clean, so I don't think the previous owner lived on a dirt road or anything. I don't want to change the tranny fluid, and I don't want to go for the full monty 30K service $$. What reasonable, prudent maintanence items would you reccomend in my situation?

yea heres what the RX has:
Maintenance Required light on your tachometer, comes on automatically after 5,000 miles since the last time it was reset (can be reset using the ODO pushbutton, search this forum for the procedure).
You can also use the maintenance page on the Navigation screen if you have one, to manually set your own oil change interval reminder (or any other maintenance for that matter).
The 2008 RX has lifetime tranny fluid, only needs to be check at 100K miles, replace only if towing. Use Genuine Toyota WS fluid only (very expensive). Some people change it out anyway as a precaution...
AS for 30K service... probably not worth it to go to a dealer. Just make sure all your fluids are checked, change your oil, check/change your air filter and cabin air filter yourself (easy jobs), and consider a tire rotation. Other than that, youre good to go

The dash has a maintenance required light that comes on when the oil needs changing about every 5,000 miles. Evidently, this was reset last time it was changed. The Nav system also has a separate user input system where it tracks maintenance performed. This may or may not have been used. Also, you can register your RX at mylexus .com and see what has been done by the dealer.
All that being said, if I was not sure when the oil was last changed, I would do it now for peace of mind. You do not need to change the tranny fluid until 60,000 miles an that is only in "severe" conditions. The tranny has World Standard fluid which seems to be really good stuff.
Check your manual for other items. I think I brake fluid replacement is due at 30,000 miles, although I don't think it is of huge importance.
Hope this helps and good luck and welcome to the club. There are some very knowledgable folks around here.
