Default do you guy`s have your lights set to auto?

The reason I ask is because when mine are set to auto, then every morning when I start the vehicle, the lights are on (hid`s) due to being in the garage. To me that seems like a waste of bulb/ballast life. Also, they stay on pretty long when I shut off the vehicle, which cant be real good for the battery.

No. I told my dad, he generally has them on OFF, and then switches to AUTO.

But sometimes being forgetful in the morning he leaves it on AUTO.

Regardless, i told him, when the ballast died this summer as to what the cause *most* likely was.

Then again, it is from 2004, so with time it was bound to die, i suppose. I do the same [ES300 w/ aftermarket HID], start car on 'off' or the 'second' position, then switch to HID.

And for battery, it won't kill it prematurely, but it is annoying, so just click the lock button once more to shut them off?

I try to get the wife to turn them off but she has to have them on auto for some reason. Our garage is too dark so it will be the middle of the day and the HIDs come on and I think about one day they will burn out.

WOMEN!!!!

All kidding aside, at least there is the option for off. My two GM vehicles don't have an off setting, but then again they don't have HID lights either.

Yes, the wife does have them set to auto even though they should not be. I don't have them set to auto in my car for the same premature death reason. This was a $600 lesson from BMW. Bad ballast.

this is a matter of personal preference. i guess if you were concerned with wear and tear you would change your settings to turn off the telescoping steering wheel when you get in and out of the car also.

The difference between the telescoping steering wheel & xenon headlights is that too many on/off cycles will cause premature failure of the ballast or bulbs. I have yet to hear of an issue with the telescoping steering wheel. If this were a common problem, yes, many of us will disable this.

I keep mine on AUTO all the time. it doesnt bother me that it wastes bulb time, because that is just maybe 1 minute a day.

As for when you turn off the car, you can just click the lock button twice on your key and it will turn off the headlights immediately.

I do the same thing, sometimes if its really cold and I wanna let it warm up, il just turn them down once im in the car.

And once you get out, 1 click close locks all doors, second click turns off lights.

+1 I keep mine on auto too. The headlights can be turned off easy enough.

I leave mine on Auto all the time. I have a carport so my lights don't come on prematurely. If they do, it probably means I need to have them on when I drive. Its especially helpful when I'm driving at dusk.

Yeah thats not so bad that way,if my car sat out side of the garage I would probably set the lights to auto. It`s the coming on unnecessarly that I dont like.

I leave mine on auto. A quick flick of the control from auto on on and back to auto after shutting off the engine turns them off right away.
