Navigation Disc
Does anyone know what year a 7.2 disc may be from? I have a stock disc in my 04 RX 330 and noticed someone selling a version 7.2 for about $50.00 and was wondering how much of an improvement it is over my 04 version. Also can anyone recommend where to buy an upgraded disc other the the dealer and what version I might notice an improvement with?
Thanks, Mike

Mike, the latest nav was recently released and is up to version 9.1 now. You can purchase it from Sewell. They seem to have the best price.

I haven't updated my nav since I got my RX in '03 so I can't comment about improvements or what year 7.2 came from. At least the updates are cheaper than they used to be. Good luck.

Mike, I won't be updating, I will be upgrading My 450h will be in next month or early January.
I didn't bother with the updates before because they were expensive, around $300. I think there have been about two updates before 9.1 - I didn't keep the postcards from the dealer. If I was keeping my '04, I would upgrade to 9.1 because the price is palatable and the maps on my nav are 6+ years old.

Thanks Anita,
Enjoy your new 450!! You must be getting excited. I will probably purchase the 9.1, I was just wondering if anyone out there had seen the significant difference when upgrading a 6 year old version.

Mike,
It's really hard to say whether or not the upgrade would be worth it. There aren't a lot of new features and functions that I know of that you will get. Mostly it will be addresses and points of interest (businesses) and maps that are 3 years more up to date than what you have. (v4 assuming that is what is in your car vs v7). If you get the latest that was mentioned, v 9, you be jumping approx 5 years. Whether that matters or not depends on how you use your system and whether or not there has been a lot of new development in the areas where you drive.
My experience has been the newest version is usually about $200 to $250 and agree with Anita that Sewell usually has a very comptetitive price. you can buy older versions (like 6 or 7) on ebay for a lot less. Be sure you are getting a factory original, not a copy.
You also want to be sure that you buy the right generation dvd for your car. nav generation refers to the hardware. dvd v9 or v7 etc, come in generation 3, 4 or 5 depending on the year of your car. I'm pretty sure your 04 is gen3 navi. Sewell parts online has a chart you can look at to verify.

I had mine upgraded two months ago in Mobil Al. (I also have a 2004RX) It cost 199.00 and made a huge difference. Many more addresses etc. on it. It even splits the screen when I get close to the area i'm going. I think all Lexus dealers charge the same.

I just installed my new 9.1 update version. It made a significant improvement after 6 years. I had the joy of experiencing the new version on my 200 mile trip from my place in Montello, WI back to IL this weekend. Very glad I choose to update.

Mike, I'm sure the new RX will have the latest available version, 9.1. Some people got their RX before the update came out and are getting it installed now.
