There was a problem like this on the toyota avalon. People said that it would break causing the hole engine to be out of commission while the pipe was broken and many avalon owners would have to pay for it if they were out of warranty even though it was noted as a widespread issue. I have to bring it in eventually

Below are 2 pictures showing the exact location of the connector on the RX 350.
If anyone had it already replaced by Lexus, PLEASE let us know what type "rubber" vs. "all-metal" was put in your car. If there are any owners of 2009 RX 350 let us know if you also received any notification from Lexus to have this work done. Maybe 2009 RX 350 already has metal connector straight from the factory??!!!

The current Lexus LSC lasts until March 31, 2013. My 2008 RX350 FWD is only 2.5 years old with 25k miles on it. I am starting to think that I should wait to do this till a later time such as around 50k or so (when people say the current hose supposedly should fail) or just a few months before the LSC's deadline. That way I can get the most out of the current hose (even if it is less reliable, but while I am still under warranty) while starting the clock/life of the new rubber hose with "improved design" at a later time. In this way, even if the second "improved design" fails again, it happens much later.

Does this make sense? I know I am taking a chance knowing the current hose could fail anytime (although people say it mostly fails around 45k to 65k).

My 2008 RX350 AWD just had that tube replaced a week ago. I just went and looked, the new tube still has rubber hose, not a solid steel. I don't really care much, because first, I naver had any leaks there to begin with, and second, if the Toyota thinks this new "improved" rubber is a good fix for the problem, I have no reason to doubt that.

There is no percentage in waiting. The oil line is not a part that is considered a routine replacement like a brake disc pad.By waiting you are taking a chance for a lot of bad and nothing good to happen since this has been determined a serious defect that can be corrected.

Had my 08 350 done last week got the rubber hose it also has foam padding around the places where it could rub on metal.

I would get it fixed before you go out of warranty.

My car is a lease due back in the next 6 months or so. I hate dealing with the dealer. If the hose ruptures and engine seizes I get a free tow truck and loaner. Because its only "1 hour" the dealer won't give me a loaner and of course it would take more than "1 hour." The dealer doesn't wash my car and they stopped giving free water bottles -- just cheap coffee now and you cant change channels on their TV.

joako, just curious. Does the dealer not wash your car or he does not wash any of the customers cars ? I thought that all Lexus dealers did this as part of the Lexus experience.

Got my hose replace last saturday, took 1.5 hours. They washed and vacuumed my car, and stole 2 dollars worth of quarters from my middle console

Anyways, the replaced hose is a new improved rubber/metal as in the picture couple post above. Hope it doesn't break or else they better pay me for a new car!

When I got home I looked to see what my replacement looked like but my 2008 RX has a plastic cover over that portion where the oil line is located. I did not won't to try to remove it to look as I was running late for an appointment. In the above pictures, was a plastic cover removed to show the location ?
