Any high mileage RX without transmission problem?
#62
On another very current thread, I was advised to maybe change the tranny fluid on my 2006 RX330 AWD with 42000 miles now. From what I read here, I am not so sure. I'll probably keep the vehicle for another 50000 miles. This may sound paranoid, but I'm sort of concerned that either "something will get stirred up" or the dealer will put the wrong fluid in or perhaps not the right amount or perhaps not do it right. And it seems you guys are going 100,000 miles without changing the tranny fluid with no more problems than the folks changing every 30K. Maybe I'm wrong...convince me!
Don't like the way it shifts (many others don't like it as well), but otherwise no issues.
Same reason not changing it - don't like someone screws it.

2004 RX FWD. 112,000 miles. no signs of tranny problems. grumbled since purchase about downshifting early but don't experience jerky shifting except once in great while. had software updated and oil changed once.

2001 RX AWD. Bought used 2 years ago with 60K miles . Now has 102K. Have done 2 "drain and fills" on the transmission with synthetic TX fluid. Shifts like a charm. Plan to drop the pan next week and replace the screen/filter, and refill again. What's $50 worth of new TX fluid compared to the cost of replacing the transmission?

What Fluid?
Went to the Dealer to take care of the master cylinder TSB. I asked for trans fluid and they gave me Quaker State ATF. What? I would have thought they would give me Toyota Spec Fluid? From what I know I believe most all Trans fluid in it's IV version is synthetic. Any help or advice?

Did they give you Quaker State Multi-Vehicle ATF or just standard Quaker State ATF?

The Toyota Type IV is not synthetic.
Among the Type IV compatible synthetic ATF fluids I know of:
Amalie Universal Synthetic ATF
Amsoil ATF
ATP Solution Simple Synthetic Multiple Vehicle ATF
Eneos ECO ATF
Liqui Moly (Lubro Moly) Top Tec ATF 1200
Mobil 1 ATF
Motul Multi ATF
Redline D4
Royal Purple Max ATF
Schaeffer's All Trans Supreme ATF
Valvoline MaxLife Dex/Merc ATF
