I've been looking at the 2nd gen GS300 forum (just picked up one). There is a DIY there to strip off the black paint on the grill to reveal the chrome underneath. It cost next to nothing with wonderful result & improved look on the car. Look here:

Question: Is the 2007RX350 grill the same way with chrome underneath the paint? If yes, has anyone done this DIY? How it came out?
Thanks,
Steiner

Apparently it is chrome underneath. Read this prior thread:

Grilles are chrome plated all throughout because selective chrome plating is hard to do.
It is not only for aesthetics but for protection from rock chips. Chrome plate offers a hard surface resistance to scratches and chipping. If they used plain plastic, you would easily have dents from rock chips.

We discussed stripping our grilles a lot a long time ago. Fleabay has a few being sold stripped.

I ended up getting a TC grille...I love it.
I used to have an RX400 Hybrid grille (which is still for sale, btw).

Good luck.
I have 2 Spare Grilles, one that came with my RX and one that came from an RX Hybrid, where the slats are horizontal.
I have always wanted to do the chroming (means remove paint) of the horizontal RX Hybrid grille but never got to it. Maybe I should and then I can imagine what it looks like.

What I wanted to do was to remove paint form the horizontal slats. Never got to it.

I removed the paint from the grill on my RX300.
Its been awhile. But if I remember right. I just used some jelly type paint stripper. Let it sit for an hour. Then hosed it off.
