04-05 all made in japan I think. years after, its a toss up.

All you have to do is open the hood, and on the backside of the hood, by the left or right hinge, there is a sticker of the factory name. If its made in Japan, it will looks something like this

The only way to tell the country of origin is the VIN number. If the VIN starts with a J its Japan. If it starts with a 2 its Canada.

Actually, this refers only to the final assembly location. Tells you nothing about where the parts are sourced from. Do not worry about the final assembly location. Those built in Canada are just as well built as those coming from Japan.

Canadian built RXs started in September 2003. Not to say all came from there after that point.

VIN will tell you Japan or Canada. When looking, ask for the VIN.

No difference in the quality of the vehicles built in Japan vs. those built in Canada.

^Plus 2. If you look at the TSB's there are ones issued vs Japan made RX330's.

so, does this consensus still hold? Canada vs Japan = similar quality / reliability? i wonder because i've had a bit lesser quality out of japanese makes built in the U.S. with some U.S.-sourced parts. are Canadian-built RXs built from mostly Japan-sourced parts or did local factories spring up around the Canadian assembly plant to supply parts?

no offense to Canada, U.S. or hell, anybody who may take offense from my questioning, but Japan earned its reputation for quality manufacturing when their brands were made in japan from parts also made in japan.

i own many quality items built in the U.S. and i've had great tires made in canada among other things i'm sure. but when it comes to electronics and cars if i'm strictly after quality (versus, say, fun to drive, as in previous bmw/VWs) I buy Japanese.

preshate it...

just run it,and dont worry about it. Plenty of people drive Honda`s,Hyundai`s etc that are built here with no problems. I do however thank Toyota for coming through for me on the Radiator, and transmission shift feel TSIB. Mine is made in Canada btw.

In fact some of the heavy TSB's were issued against Japan made RX. Look at the recent recall about brakes. Neither here nor there.

Canada vs Japan, unless we are looking at data, we can not make a solid conclusion. I bet you Toyota has the data.

The VIN definitely is the one that tell where the vehicle was assembled as others have stated. As for quality between the two, you MAY get a better battery that's about it. My OEM (Panasonic) is going on 7 yrs and still going strong. But, it's a moot point as battery is easy/cheap to change out and a lot of people change them out early (after 3 years) as a preventative measure.
