Well I went outside to do the install today armed with the info from this forum. Using basic hand tools, I think it took me all of roughly 30 min to install the USA Spec adapter into our family RX suv

The most time consuming part was running the iPod cable into the glovebox entering from the right side of the glovebox. The unit does exactly what it is advertised to do.

I like how it gives you 2 modes:

disk7: Access to playlist from the factory radio
disk8: Direct access using the iPod thumb wheel to chose the playlist

Each time I hit "DISK" it toggles between the factory 6-disk changer and my iPod playlist. Hitting the "TEXT" button even displays my song, playlist or artist name.

Now my wife can use this without taking her eyes off the road - all for $120 bucks which you can't argue with that. I'm a happy camper with this mod!

^^ s4play does it charge the iPod? I find not only does mine NOT charge it but it drains it ALLOT faster than usual even while not in use.

hmmm I was so excited it worked I never bothered to check but it's supposed to charge. Now that you ask I have to go look tomorrow (too cold outside right now).

Would be really stupid if the mfr. made something like this that does not charge the ipod!

Yeah it's advertised to charge it. Have not been able to get mine to do it.

Just confirmed ours DOES charge the iPod just fine - whew!

Ok cool. Glad to hear it. Do you remember where your jumper switches are at? All on? if that's a yes than mine is simply defective.

I have had the iSimple Gateway in my 2008 RX350 without Nav for several months. The iPod/iPhone charging and playing is great via the Gateway. I decided to try the iSimple Bluetooth update module since I needed to update the Gateway with firmware and a new IC board to support iPhone 3Gs iOS 4.x.

Update to Gateway went fine but the Bluetooth iSimple device does not stay connected to the iPhone. It seems to always want to stream Bluetooth audio and I can never get the Bluetooth phone service to send or receive calls. All installation was done by a local professional installed.

I can NOT recommend the Bluetooth add-on to the iSimple Gateway. I do still recommend the iSimple Gateway for music, iPod/iPhone playing and charging. Until iSimple can solve the Bluetooth issues I recommend staying away from the Bluetooth update.

I just ordered a new USA Spec and I hope this one works. Since I already have the other installed I can just do a quick switch and I ope forget about the extra $120 I had to spend.

Thanks s4play and others. I got the new unit today, replaced the old unit. I am happy to report it charges the ipod and works perfectly. Sounds even better than before. Dunno but my last unit was foobar.... So happy right now lol!
