I ask because when I checked the price of the Lexus hitch, PT228-48045, the price is over $400 while the Toyota hitch is less then $400 installed.

When I checked for aftermarket hitches the same hitch fits both the RX350 and the Highlander. I wonder if the only difference between the OEM hitches is the branded plug.

Thanks
Did this hitch work out for you? I found one advertised on Craigslist for Lexus & Highlander. After inquiring, the guy informed me it had this part number. I would like to know if the hitch with this part number can be used. I think the catch might be that this one is Class II whereas the Lexus hitch is Class III.

But Class III is up to 5,000 lb capacity, Class II is 3500. So the RX330 doesn't need a Class III since it can only pull up to 3500. Hmmm.
(I know, I'm carrying on a thread by myself. )

It is the exact same hitch as the Lexus. It fit perfectly and the wiring harness hooked right up. It is a class II hitch. The only difference is the part number and the logo plug, the Toyota service guy actually gave me a Lexus plug for mine.

I paid $275 at the dealer and installed myself.

So the Toyota guy basically gave you a $300 piece of plastic. Nice!! That is definitely the way I'm going to go. Thanks for the update.

Ya, since the only difference is the plastic Lexus cap but the Lexus part numbered hitch costs roughly $300 more than the one from Toyota.

This was my thought exactly. It is crazy that Lexus wants to charge almost $300 more for the hitch with the plastic Lexus logoed plug. Ridiculous.

There is a person selling an OEM Lexus hitch on the Allentown, PA, Craigslist for $60 right now. I wish I lived closer or had the time to drive over there to get it.

I hope you gave the parts guy a tip, bought the department doughnuts or coffee or something, because he saved you a lot of money!
