Doesn't the ecu adjust the air/fuel ratio to compensate for the intake and so it is really a wash when to comes to mpg? At wide open throttle the ecu should sense more air and thus inject for fuel, but cruising at 75mph, the intake should not make a real difference.

Anything over 3rd gear is probably useless. Short ram's are for low gear by default. But for me a few times when I have punched it on the highway the results scared the crap out of me. Way over revving. The engines revved so high it can't be good for the engine at all and on top of that there is no acceleration when it happens. Scary..

Yeah this is actually not that uncommon for intakes. Well at least for me. I experienced a similar thing with my Cold Air on the xA until I changed it down to Short Ram but it was not a big issue and not half as loud since it was a small 4 cylindar. But with the v6 it's much worse. So I would say be cautious on the highways and don't put it to the metal. That time I was in a rush and did not have to push it but did. Now I know not to do it.

I am know engineer but I will keep on the intake for a bit and see how I feel about it. Maybe take it off for a while and see how I feel about the ride without it. My buddy knows ALLOT about all of this so I will ask him and hear what he has to say about it.

I too am getting 450km/tank readings from the computer (calculated cruising range) on stock everything w/ 91 octane premium gas...

Yes. Regular 87 octane. However, and again, I live and drive in a relatively flat area here in FL and at my age I am not in a huge hurry to get anywhere in my RX. Should that be the case, I have other vehicles in the stable for those tasks which are much more enjoyable to drive hard.

my area is quite flat as well and i drive this car slowly. Is your reading from the calculated cruising range or the ODO after you run out of gas?

The number is what appears as the Cruising Range on the display when I fill up. I calculate my actual mileage from time-to-time when I fill up. Usually around 22MPG around here when calculated on actual mileage and gas used. Around 15 miles to the grocery store, each way, on roads that are 35-45MPH with no stop lights in between, as an example of my trips. MPG is less when I go to the city. Have made trips from FL to PA and back and had segments of 28+MPG when calculated on actual mileage and gas used.

wow, then that's a pretty big difference.... i wonder how it determines the range, or if it it can be reset.

I was talking about getting an intake for the car today with a mate. I have had custom intakes before and they did do a fair job of increasing the pedal feel and got rid of some sluggishness. I would like to get rid of the sluggishness for the RX (2004 RX330 - Australia). With regards to engine noise, is this only higher in the rev range? What about if you're just driving it as per normal, is it that much of a difference with noise. I did the custom BFI only on a couple of turbos, and enjoyed the spooling noise but no idea what sort of sound it will make for general driving? Also where do all the vaccuum lines go, if the original stock box is removed?

Also wanted to add that I on average get about 420km (260 miles) on a full tank. That's what the computer reads out, and I have noticed that the light is on at this stage. I know that there is still a reserve left and could probably make it to about 450km (279 miles) if I'm lucky. I tend not to risk running out of juice, so I fill up at that point.

Doesn't matter. Your going to have a more truck like sound no matter what but not as much with regular light footed slow starts. It's not horrible
