I've brought back AutoZone Pads with 1/2 of more life left on them and they always give me a new set. They don't even open the box many times. I could return them with a brick in the box and they would not even know it. I have also returned rotors which were warped from wear and tear and they have give me a new set under warrany. That why I like Autozone, no questions asked!

Yes it does say in the fine print, but I don't think they care much. Its probably hard to prove if failure is from wear and tear or product defect. I have returned items at different stores and all the same around here.

1. Ask dealer to show itemized quote so you can see price breakdown. I would wonder what is that there that make it $700/axle.
2. If you need to replace rotors, get solid (not slotted or drilled) Brembo rotors from TireRack.com. These are great rotors and last way better than any OEM-s. But I would go with OEM (Lexus-Toyota) pads, as they typically are optimized for your car with normal driving, not racing, etc. Buy thm on Internet as a kit, as they will come with other parts (shims, etc)
3. Get your parts (rotors and pads) installed by any shop for $70 to $80, if you cannot or do not want to do it by yourself.

I had an independent do mine and had issues. Had Lexus take a look next time I was in the shop and they indicated that there were no shims installed which caused the problem.

those of you that had the brakes replaced @ local Toyota dealer, how much did you pay and what did you have done? My local Toyota dealer charges like $110/hr. When the next brake job is due I am considering someone else do it, but afraid to take the RX to local mechanics.
