Hi All

Went to get gas this morning and found my gas cap hanging and not tightened. I have always thought this should light up the check engine light but it never came on. It does come on with all the other lights when the car is started but then goes out as normally. This is on an 07 RX350 with 55K, any ideas on what this problem actually is?

chances are you dont have a problem. typically what the computer will do is record how many times it sees certain errors, in your case the gas cap was off. once the computer reads the error so many times, it triggers the engine light. sounds like you didnt reach that minimum.

chances are there is an error code stored in the computer, just not bad enough to tell you to get it fixed.

Thanks, is there a way to verify that the Check Engine light system is working properly?

you could go to the dealer and have them check for codes, but that would cost you at least 50 bucks.

beleive it or not, when you start the car and the cehck engine light comes on and goes off, thats the computer doing a check.

personally i wouldnt worry about it
