Default Darn Door lock!

My door lock decided to stop working a week ago, then after a few days, it started working again. Now it's dead again!

I believe it's toyota's design flaw with using crappy RC motors in their actuator. Funny thing is the previous owner had Lexus replace the actuator in 2008 due to the same issue... 2 years and it's broken again!

Stealership wants $600 to replace the actuator... but I plan on DIY'ing it after reading this thread from the GS forums to replace the $4 rc motor, seems super easy:

has anyone done this themselves? is it the same actuator Lexus use in all their cars?

when do you experience the problem? Is it when you use your key or the lock/unlock switch on the door panel?

I have opened up an SCs actuator and by the pictures from the GS forum, the motor looks different. The only conclusion, I can draw is that you can not count on the motors to be the same.

Check out the posts in Rx300 forum. People have successfully used the piggy back solution.

Taking the lock out was not easy in SC. I am convinced the piggy-back solution is what I will do when my actuator dies.

Also some folks have been able to revive the locks by lubing it. There is a spray borne lubricant for garage doors, you may give it a try.

nope. it just happend 1 day when the car wouldnt lock and set the alarm when i pressed the button. After a while it worked again. This time i unlocked the car and it wouldnt lock 30 secs later. All done with the remote, i never stuck my key in the actual lock.
