Battery replacement, is Walmart battery ok?
#17
I wish I saw this thread earlier this week. The lexus dealer told me last week my battery will need replacing soon and quoted $250. I held off and this past Tues after being out of town for 3 days the RX didn't start and needed a jump. Brought it to Sears after work and purchased a diehard gold for $110 plus tax/install ~$135. Had I known about the prorated lexus warranty or even the other options mentioned in this thread, would have save some money.

Lesson learned. Hence the need to measure voltage parameters on the battery.
battery periodically.
Such as:
Is the battery holding charge?
Is the alternator putting out the right charging voltage?
Are the contacts well maintained?
Will save you from that dreaded...click-click-click. And $ $ $.

Hey, I called Lexus today, he even though it states 84 months, warranty does not cover the battery for 84 months. It covers full replacement for 24 months (parts and labor). Between 24 and 36 months it pays for 1/2 the cost of the battery but no labor and between 36 and 48 months it covers 25% of the battery and no labor. The cost for Lexus to replace a battery is $185
I called Sams Club, they said it cost only $75 for Interstate battery!!

Autozone's Duralast Gold has the same 36-month full return warranty as well, although I think the price of a group 24F is about $90 (Kansas City area). In this region I think it's smart to change them out proactively at about 60 months. I have two of them in about this size - one in a Highlander and the other in my ES330. The Highlander unit died after 5-6 months and they had it changed out inside 10 minutes. They tole me that an infant mortality failure is rare but it happens. Good guarantee and folks that back their product.

If the swap is done quickly then the settings are not lost.
The problem with the cir lighter is that RX has to have the ignition ON for it to work. I am not so sure if the RX air bag light will lit up if the ignition is ON and you loose power.
It is not a biggie even if you loose your presets.
