Default How to remove back seats?

I want to take out the rear / back seats of a 2007 RX350 to do some detail cleaning and de-rattling. I can't find explicit instructions in the forums - is there a FAQ on this, or could somebody give me some pointers? I'd like to have an idea of what I'm doing before I take to it with a spanner!

Would assume that the respondent has the printed copy of the Repair Manual.

Thanks Dadcat. That is a considerable help. If you could post the pictures I'd be very grateful.

Indeed. It would be interesting to know if the CL forums consider the use of service manual exerpts as abuse of copyrighted material. I see them occasionally in other discussions and although I have manuals for both my Lexus vehicles I have always been reluctant to post anything from them (I don't think I'd look too good in an orange jump suit). Can anyone offer definitive information regarding sharing of service manuals beyond the broad prohibition of copyrighted materials in the FAQ?

I will leave it to the CL folks to provide their official line on the matter, however, as one who has worked with the legal aspects of the appropriate use of copyright material in an electronic medium I have to state that the posting of pictures or PDF's containing scanned images of pages out of a Repair Manual to be quite illegal. The Repair Manual is a "for sale" item and thus has special copyright protections.

The Owner's Manual is a different story. It is provided to each of us free of charge when we purchase our vehicle and we can receive a new free one if we ask. Therefore, it has different protections alloted to it.

Examples:
A. Someone posts a PDF or screen capture from a page in the Owner's Manual to answer a question here online. This is allowed. It is assumed that you are not the originator of the information.

B. Someone posts a copy of the entire Owner's Manual. This is not appropriate. Only Toyota/Lexus can distribute or designate who can distribute the Owner's Manual in its many forms.

C. Post a screen capture or PDF of any part of the Repair Manual -- this is a copyright violation. Even if you give credit for where it comes from.

When in doubt, just point to the information on where it can be found online, or summarize the information as dadcat1 had done. Take pictures or create you own drawings as necessary. When referencing the Owner's Manual just limit the amount of information you capture electronically for posting and be sure to reference where it came from. Remember from school -- be sure to cite your work when appropriate.

Hope this is of some help.

This is in line with my understanding of intellectual property rights from my experience in the engineering and software industries. In the absence of some form of permission from the holder(s) of SM copyrights the contents cannot be shared. Thanks for taking the time to offer the detailed explanation.

Yes, that about sums it up. Unfortunately, some feel that once they have obtained the material, free or purchased, that they are within their rights to redistribute it in whole or part as they please. This cannot be further from the truth. And even if it is provided for free it does not mean the author/publisher gives up any rights.

Enough for now.

Many thanks to Dadcat1 for providing the instructions, and to RX330inFl for explaining the copyright issue. While it would be nice to have the pictures I understand why they can't be posted. I probably have enough information to remove the seats, which was the original point of my question.

As RX330inFl pointed out, Poisson if you can take pictures of you doing it (i.e. making a work log, after the very helpful information from Dadcat1) then this would make a great sticky thread for future reference for any member (would effectively stop any illegal picture uploads etc).

RX330inFL is correct. We do not not host or allow posts / discussion of how to illegally obtain copyrighted content of any sort (examples would be a Lexus repair manual PDFs, illegal copies of navigation software, etc).

This is explained in our forum terms of service:

The following topics and links are prohibited on Club Lexus:

• Carfax requests on any records of a particular VIN. The Carfax service is inexpensive insurance and Club Lexus does not allow theft of their service on our forum.
• Links to sales on auction sites such as eBay or other commerce websites to promote an item the member is selling elsewhere or has a vested interest in.
• Links to multi-level marketing, pyramid schemes or other posts where the member posting the link achieves financial or other personal gains.
• Links or discussion / promotion of illegal activities or illegal drug use
• Links or discussions regarding software piracy including duplication of Lexus Navigation DVDs or other Lexus software
• Links to pornography or links to other sites that are not work safe, including sites with banner advertisements that are not work safe.
• Advertisements for non-approved vendors or group buys sponsored by non-approved vendors or other automotive forums
• Links to posts on other forums that foster cross-forum arguments posted on CL or another forum
• Requests for financial donations or sponsorships for self or others

These threads may be removed, locked or deleted without notification to the member.

Let's get this thread back on the topic of helping the OP out with his back seats if he has additional questions.
