Imo, a 4 1/2 year old battery would be premature to fail. My 05 still has its original battery. Did you check the voltage with a multimeter? How about trying a jump start - try that? Your idle volts, battery off should be in the 12 volt range but that is only half of the check. The amps behind it may be the culprit. If you are able to get it jump started, the idle voltage should be around 14.5 +/- volts with the engine idling.
Have you ever cleaned your battery terminals or checked your cell fluid level? Dirty terminals can reduce the flow of electricity to the starter motor. These are sealed batteries but that usually means that you have large caps that can be carefully pried off to reveal the fluid level. If you do this, wash the top of the battery off first to preclude running garbage into the cells.
Fwiw, it sure sounds like a dead battery.

Def. could be the battery. Take it into Auto-zone have them check it (or do it yourself with a kit they sell) and see if it needs replacing. My OEM Battery on my other Toyota died around 40K.

I take it that the whirring sound you described is not the sound of the engine turning over. Must be just the starter motor so it sounds like the solenoid is not engaging the starter gear.
If a jump start did not correct it you can probably assume it's not the battery.

Again, corroded terminals CAN significantly reduce the flow of electricity to the starter. The indication can be white precipitate around the terminal or other oxidation signs. Imo, the only way to know for sure is to pull the battery cables and inspect them.
The few times that I have had battery issues, I have always cleaned the terminals, checked the electrolyte level and checked the static battery voltage.
Keep us posted.

BEFORE you take the battery out, read the cautions by searching this forum. You will lose your settings for windows, sun roof, radio, seats, etc. It is easy to redo them though. Also, as suggested, if the battery is under warranty why not have Lexus look at it.

I second having Lexus look at it. My 330's battery was replaced around 4 1/2 years but probably died due to aftermarket stereo equipment. The noise was similar. Jump starting worked the first time, didn't last though because it wouldn't start again on its own. AAA got my RX to the dealer since I was outside the 4/48 warranty. The cost was $0 between 30+ mile flatbed tow and new battery. The dealer also reset the windows/moonroof but like Grumpa said it's easy to do. Good luck.

How much did it cost you from Sam's?
Costco does not have a 24F but the alternate Group 3 should work and it costs $60 plus core fee of $9.

Cool thanks. Have stopped using Sam's many years ago. Just wondering.
