Call it whatever you want, but it cuts fuel to the engine if it detects a slide, which will dampen the effectiveness of the viscous center differential. This worried me a great deal before my first trip to the snow, due to the fact that if the rear end steps out while making a turn in the snow you want to maintain gentle throttle. Cutting the throttle in this situation will make the back end come all the way around. I had the chance to check this dynamic out in an empty lot after a day on the slopes and was pleasantly surprised that the system allows a certain amount of rear slide in snow mode.

Your right they do have traction control, I should have been more clear. What I`m saying is; you cant disable it on the awd system. Only on the fwd for some reason.

Talking Wheel spin vs. getting stuck

I have an 05 AWD and I was able to go through 12 inches of snow last winter, as long as I kept moving, anyway. A guy stopped in front of me and then I stopped and could not get going again. I was somewhat impressed with this performance, and now I know the performance limits in snow.

I will have to get my manual out again, as I think I have an ECT or some such button, as I have had a loss of power when I open the throttle to get moving in slippery snow....it sounds like to me the the engine rpms are being reduced by the computer to avoid wheel spin....but I got no power to get going.
