I had my car in manual mode (i.e. tiptronic or whatever you want to call it) and I was in first gear. I accelerated and the car got to red line and stayed there for about 5 seconds or so. I had pulled away heavily and was impressed by the surge of the car, but forgot to go to 2nd when red line was approaching. I don't suspect this will have any issues with the engine as it was only brief? It also felt as though once the car had redlined it kind off seemed to drop power and the surge of power went away. Is this a self protection mechanism built into the 3MZ-FE?

There's a rev limiter, if you went further it would've just kept bouncing off your limiter.

So nothing to be a afraid of then, given that it was a one time only thing for a very brief period of time.
