I dunno why the dealers (and other mechanics) even recommend machining the rotors. They will just be thinner after the machining, and more prone to heat warping. Plus, the price of new rotors (unless you're going Brembo or something high end) vs. the price of the machining makes it almost ludicrous to have the rotors machined.

Outside Rotor turning is $7.50 per pc. $15 for the set, must turn both at the same time.
Max 2 turns then replace. Depending on how much was taken out each turn.
Lexus marks your rotors to identify how many turns made. They marked mine, did both front and back under warranty for warpage.
Warpage comes from excessive heat. When your pads go low, temps go up. If you do not watch out, warping will take place. If you will notice all cars have what they call brake spoilers, they scoop airflow and direct them to your brakes. Hence you end up with dust on your rims all the time. They are the black sheet metal steel behind the rotors.
Of course performance rotors use high temp resistant steel, hence more money, less warping. But will eat pads. Which is just fine, just keep up with pad thickness.

I meant high temp cast iron...depends on how much carbon and other component additives...

I recently had the OEM rotors turned but they developed a small warp again, and I'm fairly picky. So, I just finished installing front end brake rotors from KVR Performance as well. Went with OEM pads. What an improvement! We'll see how long the new rotors last. Unfortunately most of my driving is in the city.

Hey guys just wamted to give update i too went witj tje kvr rotors on all four corners...got them coated in black... amazing rotors.. they arent cheap but youll get ur moneys worth.. very very high quality and yea when i do drive the rx i am hard on brakes.. its working great with the oem pads. It was hard to swallow the price of kvr esp as they come from canada shipping is highertoo.. but beats anything from china in my opinion. As they say u get what you pay for. Thanks for the
recommendation jlsc!! Quick add i chose to go with smooth non slotted or drilled as these would last longer and can be resurfaced when needed.. and put oem pads w all shimms and all those little pieces replaaced..

Remember these measurements for rotors and pads:
Front pad
Standard thickness: 11.0 mm (0.433 in.)
Minimum thickness: 1.0 mm (0.039 in.)
Front rotor
Standard thickness: 28.0 mm (1.102 in.)
Minimum thickness:26.0 mm (1.024 in.)
Read pad
Standard thickness: 10.0 mm (0.394 in.)
Minimum thickness: 1.0 mm (0.039 in.)
Rear Rotor
Standard thickness: 10.0 mm (0.394 in.)
Minimum thickness: 8.5 mm (0.335 in.)
Measure the thickness everytime when tires are rotated at $5K miles and you know how the rotors and pads are used.
