It's my understanding that Recalls are safety related and apply warranty or not. On the other hand, Technical Service Bulletins (TSB) are applied at no cost only under warranty.

TSB's can be done on your car, free if under warranty (depends on notations made on TSB). Sometimes you can get them done under "goodwill."

Otherwise it is like a normal repair and you will be quoted the cost to do it.

I've never had to pay to have a recall done, no matter the age of the vehicle.

* No loaner car due to date and time I needed to have the work performed. Waited around the dealership and tried to pass the 2 hrs. as best I could.

* Car was washed per usual.

* They did not add fuel to the car. Not sure if this is Lexus mandated or not. Anyone hear the definitive from Lexus on whether this is required?

I've never gotten fuel at Sewell in 6 years but I have never bought a car from them, don't even know if they do it at all.

Well, I'm finally getting the master cylinder and carpet issues done tomorrow. Started planning this back in June and then time got away from me. I was able to get a last minute appointment for Friday (11/11/11). The only issue the dealership raised was that they couldn't guarantee me a loaner for that day...but I wll be curious about the gas and car wash. I'll have about a half-tank when it goes in and it does need washed! I'll try and give a report by Monday on how it went.

It's now 11/14/11. Had the recall work done on Friday. Seemed to go well, and right on time. Car was washed, gassed and ready to go. Thought I noticed a slightly improved braking performance. They checked out everything and found a side marker light out, a battery going bad (failed the load test) and a serpentine belt that will go bad. Funny thing is that they offered to change the battery (which I declined for now), did change the light (cost a little for that) and never mentioned the belt (saw it on the inspection sheet). The RX had almost 67,000 miles on it so the belt issue is understandable. I'll take a look at it and the idler pulley and consider doing those myself. Put a Gatorback belt on my truck and loved it.

About the battery. Lexus of Easton (Columbus) wanted $180 installed for a new one (Toyota True Start - made by Interstate according to the service rep). The only reason I didn't have it done is that the battery in the RX when I bought it was new - it wasn't a Toyota/Lexus battery. Since I have owned it for about two years, there should be some warranty on that battery. I'll go back to the dealer I bought the RX from if necessary.

Overall, good experience, no pressure from the service guy to buy their service/parts - he understood the battery issue. We did not get a loaner, but we knew it might happen that way (the place was a zoo that morning). That was no big deal for the day, and they did offer us a ride. I could have walked out of there paying out no cash at all. As it was, it was less that $50.

The short story is that Lexus took care of the issue in a friendly and efficient manner, and the dealership was easy to work with. At least this time!

And another thing...
Forgot that I had also asked them about the rattle from the fuel tank shield. They looked at it and "adjusted" it...so it doesn't rattle now. I don't know what they did, but it's quiet.

Does anyone else have a hard time braking after this recall repair? I got the repair done over a year ago, and it hasn't been the same since. Even had the brakes redone, still takes forever to stop.

I didn't notice any difference from the recall. I had an issue w/ ceramic pads where I didn't have enough stopping power. I changed back to OEM semi-metalic pads. What type and brand pads are you using?
