Question Does your cruise control shut off when directional is put on?

Hello,

I am the new owner of a 2006 Lexus Rx 400h and when I have the cruise control on and I put the directional either to signal left or right the cruise control shuts off. I called Lexus and they said this was not normal and want $120/hr to diagnose the problem. Does this happen with anybody else's car? I talked to an auto body place this morning about it and they said it was normal for that to happen - that his new Mercedes does the same thing. I just want to know from another Rx 400h owner if THEIR'S does this or not? I don't want to spend $120/hr for them to look at it if it isn't a "problem" in the first place!

Thanks!
Brad

Do you have a trailer hitch wired in? This can cause a small amount of current to be sent to the brake lights.

A quick Google search shows many vehicles suffer from this.

YES! There is a trailer hitch wired in for some crazy reason (there is no hitch mounted on the car...) So any idea how to fix the problem? Should I just have the trailer hitch taken out? Thanks for your help!!!

I agree with Adamsjeep .

does your vehicle have the factory tow package on it. If it does look in the manual for the trailer light fuse remove it and see if it goes away. There is also a taillight converter that might be bad that also can be disconnected. If you search CL for taillight converter you find posts on where it is located

If aftermarket hitch was wired there will be a taillight converter also that might be bad causing the problem.

The taillight converter converts a cars five wire ( 2brake lights and 2 turn signal lights to standard trailer 3 wire old school ( shared turn /brake lights where if brakes are on and rt signal on you will see a left brake light and a blinking rt light on trailer.
