Synthetic oil will give you longer life for the oil (3500 - 5000 miles). If you change the oil every 3000, you don't gain too much performance etc. from the oil, so its not too advantageous to spend a ton more for synthetic.

I usually use synthetic if it is not too much more expensive because of the life span of the oil itself, just in case you cannot change it in a timely manner. The filter actually has more effect on the engine wear over all when you take in all factors. Research filters and you will find surprising results (FRAM is not the best fwiw).

0W oil is great for very cold weather as it is quick flow. 5W should be sufficient.

Now, there is a discussion about whether 5W20 (as needed in the 350) or 5W30 (as needed in the 330). Many RX330 owners have moved to 5W20 in an effort to improve gas mileage.

Why is the 350 using 5W20? I thought only certain engines in 2006 got the TSB to use 5W20 oil?

You will find a number dealers using 5W20 on the RX350 across the board and independent of year.

Check out the attached PDF. From a previous conversation here online. Also, you can search the forums on "5W20" for more threads on this topic.

Yes, I run 0w20 in my 400h. I've used it two winters in a row now and the UOA I did showed good results. I plan to run it year round, but I had a couple jugs of 5w30 I had to get rid of. I'm in Ontario, Canada - temperature in winter can drop down to the -20s (Celsius) where I am to high in the mid to upper 30s (Celsius).

I use the Toyota 0w20, which is actually very well priced here in Canada (cheaper than in the States, which is rare for most products).

I can see running 0W in that climate. What it is meant for. Have a hard time seeing a need for someone in the southern US to use such over 5W.

Isn't the Canadian dollar worth more than a US dollar these days?

Yes, and still things are cheaper in the States. Have a look at new car prices for example.

However, when I first bought the Toyota 0w20, the Canadian dollar was not worth more.

The 0 weight will generally flow faster at start up at any temperature. You don't have to be in freezing temperatures to benefit from faster flow when starting your vehicle.

Toyota (and other manufacturers) are recommending 0 weight oils for many of their current vehicles, regardless of geographic location.

If any of you guy`s follow me over @ bobistheoilguy, I`m thinking of going to 5W20 Synthetic. But if I ever need oil changes done at the dealer, Im sure they would not put in 5W20 for me. So Ill probably just stick to the 5W30.

My manual clearly says to use 5w30, so that is what I use. The chart put out by Toyota does not include the 2007 rx350 approved for any other weight.

You've been thinking about doing that forever. By the time you make up your mind, Toyota will be using 0w0...

Talk to the guys at Thompson about using 5W20 when you take it in for the recall.
