Default Extended Warranty

Hi,

i am planning to lease Lexus certified 2008 Rx350, the dealer is telling me to buy extended warranty for $3200.

Since the car is lexus certified its comes with 2 years of warranty.

Please let me know whether extended warranty is worth the price.

Thanks,
Vishal

Strange... my 07 350 CPO came with 100k 3 year warranty. I would double check the standard CPO warranty before considering.

Personally, didn't think the extended warranty was worth it and did not purchase with our vehicle.

My 2008 RX400h came with a 3 year / 100k mile warranty as part of the Lexus CPO program. I went ahead and bought an extended warranty to extend it out to 5 years since I'll hit the 3 years first.

Time will tell if it was a good decision.

Good Luck

That is way too much.

If you search the forums here you will see multiple discussions regarding the extended warranties. There is even one dealer out there, at least, that will sell you the extended warranty even if you did not purchase the vehicle from them at a huge discount.

I would get a printout of what all is covered for that $3200 and for how long, over and beyond the CPO warranty, and then decline.

You dont need to purchase a warranty untill your current one expires.

I got a 6 year 70,000 miles Lexus Factory Extra Care platinum Zero Deductible Warranty for little over 800 dollars.

If you decide to get one. I highly recommand Jerry at Midwest Toyota.

Just send him your location of purchase, VIN and current miles to get a quote.

I got quoted the same 3yrs/60k from Lexus for $3200 but was able to shop around and find a good aftermarket extended warranty that will still allow me to get any warranty work done at Lexus but only cost me $1250 with a $50 deductable.

You can purchase the Lexus Platinum Warranty from Jerry Johnson. As long as it is still has not used up all of the original 4 year or 50.000 mile warranty.

That is true statement if you are buying your car with Lexus Financial Services.

Have set in bold above in the OP's text the part I love best... that the dealer is telling them to buy the extended warranty.

As I will assume the extended warranty does not include regular maintenance, why is this necessary? If the Lexus you are purchasing is so reliable why is it needed? [The corollary...] If the Lexus is so unreliable that it needs an additional $3200 warranty why would I want to purchase it?

Talk about padding the bottom line. Check with Jerry to see what his price is. If still too much, put that money in a savings account for future servicing of your Lexus.

On both my RX300 and my RX350. The dealer pushed the warranty hard. The first time I told them no. I was not going to keep the car long enough.

On the second one. I told them I would decide later if I was going to buy one. The internet salesman and manager told me. I only had one chance to buy it.

So I printed out the Lexus web page showing the warranty information. And took it in with me. Thats when they started "Oh, I didnt know" or " That must be new " tap dance.

Is it worth it? That depends. I paid 800 dollars for the 2 years extra warranty. And so far it has paid for a new XM reciever. I still have 18 months to go.

Thats the only part that has gone bad on my car since I bought it. And it broke about 3 months after my 4 year warranty was up.

On my 2007. I have just done the fluid changes, cabin and engine filters, wiper blades, floor mats, battery and 4 tires.

The oil line was my only recall. And my XM reciever was replaced.

Not bad

At $800 it is worth it. At $3200 you would need to have the transmission fail to recover those dollars.

extended warranty are good if you generally have a heavy foot and drive hard. I remember having my transmission replace on my Toyota, the job cost $3500 and I paid nothing
