Default RX330 AC runs great for 5 minutes then shuts off

Looking for a little help here...

I have a 2004 RX330 which has been a great car. In the last month is has developed this issue where the AC will fun just fine for about 5-10 minutes and then it obviously shuts down and blows warm humid air. In the last rainstorm it became brutally obvious how important the dehumidification powers of the AC are as my windshield was noting but a fog trap!

As much I as I like this car, I really hate taking it to the stealership. The last problem (tailgate would not open) required the replacement of a circuit board and the withdrawal of $1,000 from my net worth.

Has anyone else experience this issue or know what the fix might be?

Thanks -

You could try and get a recommendation for a good independent mechanic. Failing that, you can probably take it to a Toyota dealer since it should be pretty similar (if not exactly the same) as the a/c system in a Highlander.

Good luck,

Check out the thread below. This person had a similar problem.

Be sure to use the "search this forum" feature. I found the above using the keyword AC

Check the tension of the AC belt. If it's lose AC light will start blinking and AC shuts off. Especially in humid surrounding.

Sounds like you just need some more refrigerant added. DIY thing.

Please give more details. Are you driving while the issue occurs? Is it occuring only when the vehicle is idling? Does the problem go away while the car is driving?

Foes the A/C work fine for a few minutes then quits working and never goes back to working? - If that is the case I would bet you are low on freon to the point which the system is border line not gaining enough pressure to not trigger the low pressure switch, thus shutting of compressor.

If the problem occurs intermittently, you may have another issue I have dealt with. Need more specific details other than works for 5 minutes then stops.
