Default 2007 Rx350 battery dying

Hello everyone - The battery in my Lexus continues to give me problems, although it's not completely dead, just at times the car will not start. Someone told us it might be the alternator, so we brought it in to the dealership, they said it's not the alternator, it's a weak battery. Now they want to charge us $200. I read on one of the threads that if it's the original battery, could be waranteed for 7 years (84 months). Is this true? If so, would that be through the manufacturer? My dealership said they would NOT replace it for free. Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Welcome to Club Lexus. Be sure to use the "search this forum" feature. Almost any question you have as most likely already been answered.

The battery would be prorated. Even at that, you would pay way more at Lexus. Go buy another battery at Costco, Sam's Club or an auto supply store, you will pay less. I personally like Interstate batteries and many independents sell them.

+1. Just bought a replacement battery at Sam's club for $89. Took me 15 minutes to install it.

If your battery is 5 years old, time to get a new one. Even when they say it is pro-rated, whith their pricing, you can get a brand new 3 year complete replacement guaranteed battery for the same amount of money.

Do you know how to diagnose a bad battery or a bad alternator?

I replace mine every three years. Don't want the wife to be stranded for such an easy change out.

Yes, Lexus battery carries a full 84-month replacement warranty--it is NOT a prorated warranty. I know because I just had it replaced with a new Lexus battery on our RX free of charge when it went dead on me 4 times. In fact our neighbor just had his battery replaced at the dealer free on his 2006 ES. In our case, the battery was getting weaker and weaker. It died on me one day so I jumped it to get it back to the dealer. They checked and found everything "ok" but told me NOT to jump it next time when it went dead. It went dead 3 other times and I knew based on the trickle charger I was using, the battery was not taking charge so I called the dealer and they sent out emergency road side assistance to my house with a new battery and replaced it right there. The technician who installed the replacement battery reminded me of the 84-month full replacement warranty on it.

Don't spend your money on an aftermarket battery when your OEM battery is still under factory warranty (unless you want to). If it's going weak, it means the cells are going bad and it'll go dead completely in no time. Call Lexus Roadside Assistance for assistance if your dealer offers no help. Good luck.

I agree about going with OEM replacement battery through the dealer. I had mine replaced at no charge too on the 330. But roadside assistance will be long gone before the battery warranty runs out. They won't help if you are out of basic warranty. That's why it pays to have AAA.
