Looking to buy (advice)
Hey gang my wife is looking to get out of our 2001 RX300 FWD. We have a buyer for it so we will not need to trade it in.
We want to buy a newer model RX for around 20k. We want AWD this time and maybe NAV. Is there a model year to avoid or any things we should watch out for.
The 2010 base is closer to 30k but since were paying cash and the economy sucks we going to go with a second generation.
Any advice is appreciated.

That's a tough price point. You are most likely looking at a low mileage 330 (04-06). It would be difficult to get a decent 350 for that price, certainly with your wish list. A 350 is doable if you don't mind some miles.

I would, if at all possible get the RX350 model that started with the 2007 model year. You may need to up your price point a few thousand dollars to get the features you want. There were many new features added to the RX350 model including increased HP, Generation 5 Navigation System and much more.

I guess we all love what we drive. Don't stretch for an average 350 when you can have a primo 330 for a lot less. Coming from a 300 (as I did) a 330 will amaze.
More heresy about factory nav, it isn't that great. The future of automotive nav will be based on your smart phone. Auto makers are several generations behind every time they release a new system and they are all working on the new tech that will allow you to use your very up to date phone as the brains of future systems, as are the major AM providers...imagine SIRI in your car.
My point is adding an aftermarket nav, bt, etc will give you the opportunity to simply upgrade your head unit as this new technology comes to market, sooner than you think.

I might lean towards a higher mileage RX350 that has been well kept. You might pay a bit more, however, it is enough of an upgrade over an RX330, IMHO. Besides, no timing belt that way.

It's Beat-sonic. They sre a CL sponsor and have, I think, the best kit for the RX. I assembled the components from around the web and had a local installer put it in. You can click the Kenwood link in my sig to see the install thread.

Timing belt is not the end of the world. It's not that expensive to replace. Anyway the water pump and chain should be replaced at some points.

Get the 350. Add some more budget. But do not stop looking for an RX330 gem as Carver suggests. They are out there.
