Default Mobil-1 5W30 High Mileage

As you guy`s know I was thrilled with the MB-1 HM 5W30 oil. However, I kept getting this oil smell, and it was pretty strong. I was not too concerned at first, because this has happened in the past due to spillage on the exhaust pipe etc. The problem is......it just wasnt going away! I pulled the plastic cover down, checked everything to make sure nothing was leaking and nothing, everything was clean/dry. I thought to myself "what the Hell could be going on here?" So as a last ditch effort to remedy this pesky odor, I dropped the oil and put in Pennzoil Platinum 5W30 but left the oil filter on. Wa-LA odor was gone! I cant figure out for the life of me why this would happen, but it did. So now I`m sporting the Pennzoil Platinum. RX is running smoothly, with no odor`s and thats just fine with me. I have Asthma, and this odor was really bothering me. I dont know why this was going on, I`m just glad I put a stop to it.

Your engine's way of telling you to get that stuff out as it was not needed.

Perhaps blow-by on the PCV.

Gotta admit that I can understand Lexus114's concern. I run Mobil1 5W-30 in my RX wihout any issues. However, the last oil change I did in my truck, a '00 Toyota Tundra (4.7L V-8), I used the M1 High Mileage 5W-30 oil. I, too, have the dreaded "oil smell" and no indication of any leaks. I still have another 5 qt container, so I will change the oil again and use it for the winter, then go back to regular M1 for the spring. I am getting ready to change out my PCV valve, so that might take care of it, too. Hey, it's a truck, it's 12 yrs old, not my daily ride anymore. I expect some issues, after all. But, cross my fingers, no leaks!
