Hatch/Liftgate struts
#16
On my 2000 RX the strut broke after the liftgate became more and more difficult to lift. I bought 2 new aftermarket struts for around 63 bucks including shipping, and now, once I pop the latch, the gate goes smoothly all the way up without any assistance. This gate is stricly manual. The socket size on my bolts is 10mm.

My new aftermarket pair of struts cost me 63 bucks including shipping, and I put them on myself. It's good to have a 6 inch socket extension, easy enough except for supporting the liftgate while working. But I ask you, how could a bee fly into my socket while I was trying to work? I had to bang it on the driveway to get him out. Spooky. No motor on my 2000 RX, but when I pop the latch I have to stand back or the liftgate will hit me in the chin on the way up.

Just got my 06 RX400h hatch and hood shocks changed under Lexus Care warranty. Told them the power hatch was slow on cold mornings. Now the hatch pulls itself up both for manual openings and power openings. It was 75 degrees the day I tested the manual opening with the new shocks. The warm day probably helped things a bit.
